Cody Simpson tattoos, 2021 Australian Swimming Trials, Tokyo 2021 Olympic Games news

Aussie swimming sensation Cody Simpson has promised to add a new piece of ink on his famous frame — if he is able to book his ticket to the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.

The freak talent in and out of the pool has 17 pieces of art on his skin — and now says he will have an 18th if he qualifies for the Games, beginning July 23.

The 24-year-old has been realistic in accepting he has a mountain to climb to qualify during the 2021 Australian Swimming Trials in Adelaide, beginning Saturday.

With just one-year back in the sport after an 11-year break, Simpson has his sights on the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

He will celebrate his dream opportunity to compete at the Olympics with a new tattoo.

He told The Sunday Telegraph: “Absolutely I’ll be getting one... maybe I should stop until I’m selected on a team?

“But seriously, you would be kind of kidding yourself to think you could make an Olympic team in less than a year.”

Coming from the realm of pop stardom where he once dated Miley Cyrus, Simpson admitted he had to come back to swimming after the 2016 Rio Olympics rekindled his love of the sport.

The internationally-famous pop star ditched his guitar and A-list mates in Los Angeles to pursue his ambition of one day competing at the biggest sporting event on the planet.

A talented swimmer in his teenage years with state titles to his resume, Simpson changed lanes to become a musical sensation, collaborating with the likes of Ziggy Marley and Flo Rida and Justin Bieber.

He has previously been open about his tattoo collection, talking about how many of them are symbolic of momentous periods in his life. He also celebrated a night out with former partner Cyrus by getting tattoos together.

His collection of ink includes an anchor on his hand, an Elvis picture on his arm and a skull and bones piece on his chest.

He also has a message of “Mystic man in the sea” scribbled across his forearm.

The good news is that he still has plenty of blank canvas to add to his collection.

He has impressed some of the biggest names in Australian swimming since his return, including Ian Thorpe and Grant Hackett.

Hackett said recently he had seen enough behind the scenes with Aussie star Cody Simpson to predict he will be swimming at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

“I spoke to him at the start of the process, just to see if he was really committed, and this guy was 100 per cent serious,” Hackett said.

“It blew me away. I’ve known Cody for a very, very long time.

“It was quite astonishing to think he’d had this really established career in a completely different field, but he never lost the desire to go to the Olympics.”
