A woman died in the waters off a Queensland beach on Sunday, one day before her 28th birthday.
Lucinda McGrath, from Brisbane, was pulled ashore at Bulcock Beach in Caloundra, 90km north of the Queensland capital, but could not be revived.
“Rest in Peace Lucy. Thank you for providing me with your free spirited vibes throughout high school,” said one mourner on social media.
The Courier Mail reported the alarm was raised by other beachgoers when the 27-year-old was spotted unresponsive in the water.
The assistant cabinet maker, who her family said “loved the beach,” hailed from Zillmere, a suburb in Brisbane’s north.
She had been in Caloundra to celebrate her birthday.
Ms McGrath’s mother Lynelle McGrath said she was in “absolute shock”.
She and Ms McGrath’s stepdad placed a bouquet beneath a tree near to the tragedy.
Jennifer Moy – Ms McGrath’s cousin – told the Courier Mail she was “devastated” by the incident.
“I can’t imagine that it’s real”.
